Coi Leray has enjoyed a high after the album she released as her debut, “Trendsetter.” Still, she’s determined to not let anyone bring her down, particularly other female rappers. With the release of her new album, Erica Banks calls out Nicki Minaj for working with “no name” artists.
This month, the New Jersey native got the co-signing of a lifetime when Nicki Minaj joined forces together on “Blick Blick.” Still, certain people weren’t happy with the partnership. Coi noticed comments made by Dallas singer Erica Banks, who claimed Nicki only collaborates with women who aren’t rapping, and decided to take a stand.
Coi Leray was on Twitter on the 17th of April to retweet a video from Erica Banks’ comments regarding the Queens legend who collaborated with certain female rappers. She also shared several laugh emoji’s. Of course, the 24-year-old’s outspokenness didn’t mean anything else, but her followers knew what she was saying.
Erica Banks Calls Out Nicki Minaj
Banks’ comments were made during her interview with REVOLT’s Big Facts podcast. Erica Banks calls out Nicki Minaj’s female rap collaborators and expressed her displeasure at not being able to get a mention from the Queen herself.
“I love Nicki, but I feel like I’ve been trying to reach out to her for a long time, and I feel like she kinda ignored me,” she stated. “And I’m just feeling like she is entertaining girls who do not even know how to rhyme. It hurts my feelings!”
Although she did not mention anyone, Banks coyly added, “Y’all know that girls cannot do! … when you’ve found the girls in this area who can. Some might be angry at me for saying this. However, it’s true!”
Coi Leray appears to be shrugging off all the criticism directed at Trendsetter. The album is said to have debuted at the top of the pile. At 89 in the Billboard 200 after moving 11,500 equivalent units to the album in the first week. But that did not hinder her from being the “No More Parties” rapper, as she made a post on Twitter the following day to brag about her impressive streaming figures.
“My debut album has over 315k album sales,” she wrote. “4 Billboard top 100 entries (No More Party, No More Parties Remix, Big Prrd, Blick Blick 6 nominations without an album. The millions of people who listen to the radio every month TRENDSETTER THE ALBUM IS OUT NOW.”
