Roddy Ricch woke up Monday morning as the butt of an internet joke. It appears that the hip-hop star forgot the words to his massive hit “The Box.” In all reality, the mix-up was a technical error.
Roddy Ricch was hired to perform for the Stoned Ape Crew on Saturday night. The Stoned Ape Crew is an NFT group. The crowd at this event thought he messed up during the song’s first verse. But it ended up just being technical difficulties.
It is obvious that he is pointing toward an earpiece looking at the DJ booth. The issue got resolved, and he jumped back in at a later verse.
Roddy Ricch did come out and say that he was battling through some major audio issues. The earpiece was not synced up to the song, leaving him with nothing to go off of. The only clue he had was the sound blaring from the speakers.
But, it was impressive how fast he got back on track after resolving the situation.
“The Box” was an absolute hit when released in December 2019. However, it was shocking to some that he could forget the lyrics to his most famous song.
“The Box” spent 11 weeks in a row at the top of Billboard Hot 100. Over time the song was given Diamond honors by the Recording Industry Association. You get these honors by going 10x Platinum.
Roddy Ricch has festival appearances lined up this year. He performs at Governors Ball, Hot 97, and UK’s Wireless.
It is safe to say, “The Box” will be smooth sailing at these upcoming performances.
