Brooklyn-raised rapper Bobby Shmurda is no longer signed to Epic Records. In his new role as an independent artist, Shmurda is now ready to release a collection of music. Bobby Shmurda announces the release date of his album Bodboy 16 months after he was released from prison. Shmurda’s GS9 label, along with ONErpm, will release the nine-track EP on August 5.
Shmurda’s Troubled Past
A New York Grand jury indicted Bobby Shmurda on murder, drug possession, and other crimes in 2014, halting his music career. Bobby, who was born under the name Ackquille Pollard, pled guilty to conspiracy and weapons charges. He was sentenced to seven years in prison and five years’ supervision after his release.
Bobby’s Release
As Bobby Shmurda returned home in February 2021, Quavo of the Migos and other members of the Hip Hop community helped celebrate his return.
He has released tracks like “No Time for Sleep (Freestyle)” and “Shmoney,” featuring Quavo and Rowdy Rebel, since leaving the Clinton Correctional Facility last year.
His biggest hit is “Hot N*gga,” released in 2014. Upon Shmurda’s was released from prison, the Recording Industry Association of America honored him with a 5-x Platinum plaque for the Jahlil Beats-produced track.
“Hot N*gga” peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Originally recorded as part of the album Shmurda She Wrote, the EP has been certified Gold by the RIAA. Shmurda also has RIAA Awards for Rowdy Rebel’s “Computers” (Gold) and “Bobby B####” (Platinum).
