MLE: The Rising Star of Independent Music

MLE, an independent artist from Orange County, California, is quickly making waves in the music industry with her unique blend of versatile sounds and deeply emotional lyrics. Having graduated with a degree in Psychology from California State University, Long Beach, MLE is balancing her passion for music with her academic aspirations to pursue psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. As an artist who has been singing and playing instruments since childhood, she only began her songwriting journey in December 2020. Since then, she has released four original singles and has been consistently booked for performances and hosting gigs.

A Well-Rounded Sound Influenced by Family and R&B

MLE’s diverse music taste can be attributed to her upbringing. Her family’s wide array of musical influences, from her mom’s love for soft rock and country to her dad’s R&B and hip-hop preferences, shaped her as an artist. MLE’s sound is influenced by artists like Jhene Aiko, Kehlani, Summer Walker, and SZA, resulting in a mix of modern R&B, EDM, and rap. Her unique ability to merge genres creates a dynamic listening experience for her audience.

When asked how she would describe her music, MLE says, “It’s sensual, romantic, and moving. Whether it’s emotionally touching, physically grooving, or spiritually healing, I create tunes that everyone can feel.” Her music ranges from slow, smooth ballads to upbeat and energetic tracks, making it hard to define her style in a single genre.

Overcoming Challenges as an Independent Artist

Like many independent artists, MLE faces challenges in her music career, particularly balancing her public presence with personal relationships. Navigating the predominantly male industry has sometimes caused tension in her relationships. Despite these struggles, MLE stays motivated by her passion for music and her ability to touch others with her art.

MLE has found success with her recent release, “Temperature,” the first track off her upcoming Summer EP, slated for release in 2025. The track embodies tropical vibes and features afrobeats, dancehall, and reggae influences. She began the marketing campaign for “Temperature” with an Open Verse Challenge on Instagram and TikTok, garnering a positive response from her fans and featuring artist Litty Lee on the final track.
